The Indian Premier League 2019 witnessed the second Super Over of the season on Thursday. Chasing 163 against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Manish Pandey forced the tie-breaker by smashing a last-ball six off Hardik Pandya at the Wankhede Stadium.
Pandey remained unbeaten on 71 off 47 balls (4×8, 6×2) to keep SRH’s hopes alive for a playoff berth.
But the Super Over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, went in favour of MI as Pandey — who was asked to continue the onslaught — was run out on the first ball. Running across from the cover region, Krunal Pandya executed the throw just in time for Quinton de Kock to take the bails off.

Mohammad Nabi hit the only six, a ferocious pull over deep square leg, of the over. But Bumrah returned with a spot-on yorker to dismiss the Afghan.

Since SRH lost both its batters inside four balls, it lost out on the remaining two deliveries, thus finishing with eight runs.
The in-form Hardik and Kieron Pollard were sent to chase down the required nine runs. The right-hander smashed leg-spinner Rashid Khan for a six over long-on in the first ball. A single and a couple from there helped MI finish the match with three balls to spare.
The first Super Over of the season was between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Pacer Kagiso Rabada stood out with his yorkers to help DC win the rubber.
“Sometimes the mind can get too negative, but I would like to focus on the ball which I have to bowl and try to keep clarity. If you are clear about the ball you are going to execute and you set the field accordingly and try to keep it as simple as possible. There’s always pressure but I am just thinking one ball at a time and what I have to do on that particular ball.
“We always talk as we have faced a lot of pressure situations and they (seniors) try to guide us. In the end, it’s your own decision because if you back your own decision that’s the best way to go and going forward backing yourself is always helping,” Bumrah said at the post-match presentation ceremony as he picked up the Man of the Match award.
