Dhiraj Malhotra appointed as Delhi Capitals CEO

Delhi Capitals has named former ICC Events Manager Dhiraj Malhotra as CEO of the franchise.

Having been the Indian Premier League tournament director in 2008 and 2009, he was likely to get the job on experience. The development was made official on Thursday.

Former CEO Hemant Dua had resigned in August 2018 as Delhi refurbished itself.

Delhi’s IPL road has been thorny; like Royal Challengers Bangalore, it is hungry for a title as well.

“We are hoping the team gels really well this time around. We have a few young players who we have been grooming for a while. We have a good mix of juniors and experienced players,” Malhotra told Sportstar.

“The vision with Delhi Capitals is to create a solid fan-base, to make sure that we have a competitive team, one that believes in itself. The vision is to ensure we are the No. 1 sports team in India,” he added.

Dhiraj Malhotra will take up the role vacated by Hemant Dua.   –  Special Arrangement

At the auctions, Delhi’s fresh approach came under spotlight when it bought Test specialist batsman Hanuma Vihari for Rs 2 crore amid T20 specialists.

“He’s a great cricketer, so that format shouldn’t matter. I think he can adapt himself well whatever be the format and we have high hopes from him, and we will help him and support him as much as possible,” Malhotra justified the purchase.

There is no specific time-frame for Malhotra’s tenure. “I’m here to stay, but of course the management also has a say.”

Malhotra has seen IPL since scratch. Joining a franchise in a capacity that of a CEO completes his circle.

“There are children and families who get involved, and fans believe that they can be a part of a team, which doesn’t happen across a lot of leagues, and that makes the IPL special.”

Delhi has also roped in Srinath TB as the Head of Operations. He was earlier with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Cricket Operations department.
