Indian team invests in GPS tracking performance ahead of World Cup

The BCCI has enlisted the help of GPS performance tracking and analysis to make sure the India’s 2019 World Cup squad is in peak physical condition ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup beginning on May 30 in England and Wales.

UK-based sports tech company, STATSports, whose client list includes top football clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona, has been roped in for the task.

Players wear a baselayer vest which has high-resolution units fitted in a pocket between the shoulder blades. These units measure the of physical metrics of each player including distance, speed, acceleration, deceleration, high-speed running, and dynamic stress load. This allow the fitness team to carefully manage players’ workloads, and injury rehabilitation programmes.

Monitoring accelerations, decelerations and the dynamic stress load becomes incredibly prevalent. Sprinting between wickets means swift rotation of the ankle and knee joints. Fast bowlers get through an enormous amount of cardio, and can fatigue much quicker, as is a long day in the field. With a run of matches upcoming in matches ensuring the full squad is in the peak physical condition is paramount to on field success.
