Great that Sourav Ganguly has become BCCI president: Virat Kohli

India captain Virat Kohli on Tuesday revealed he has congratulated Sourav Ganguly on emerging as the president-elect of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Virat Kohli, while speaking to the press after India’s historic whitewash of South Africa in the 3-Test series that came to an end in Ranchi on Tuesday, added he is happy that Ganguly has been unanimously elected as the boss of Indian cricket’s apex governing body.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli also said Sourav Ganguly hasn’t spoken to him about anything related to the team, inclduding MS Dhoni’s future.

“I congratulated him [Sourav Ganguly]. It’s great that he has become BCCI president. He will get in touch with me when he has to. I will go meet him when he tells me to. He has not spoken to me about that (MS Dhoni’s future). I am sure,” Virat Kohli said.

Sourav Ganguly had also said he would talk to Virat Kohli on October 24 during which India’s squad for Bangladesh Tests and T20Is will be picked.

“I will meet him on October 24th. I will talk to him like a BCCI president talks to the captain. He is the captain and he can take a call,” Ganguly had told reporters at the CAB headquarters.

When asked if India players are planning to visit MS Dhoni at his residence in Ranchi, Kohli took a light-hearted jibe at a reporter and confirmed Dhoni had come to meet the players at the JSCA Stadium.

Notably, MS Dhoni was spotted in the Indian dressing room at the JSCA Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Tuesday. He was spotted having a chat with left-arm spinner and Jharkhand teammate Shahbaz Nadeem after India’s win on Day 4.

India head coach Ravi Shastri took to social media to share a photo of himself with MS Dhoni from the Ranchi dressing room.

“Great to see a true Indian legend in his den after a fantastic series win,” Shastri wrote.

MS Dhoni has not played for India since their semi-final defeat to New Zealand at the 2019 World Cup semi-final. Dhoni took a sabbatical after the World Cup and joined the Territorial Army Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir, staying and serving with the troops for 2 weeks in August.

It has now emerged that MS Dhoni is unlikely to be available for the 3-match T20I series against Bangladesh, scheduled to begin from November 5.

Right after filing his nomination for the post of BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly had made it clear he would have a word with the selectors about MS Dhoni’s future.

While Dhoni has not announced his international retirement, the selectors have time and again made clear that they intend to move forward keeping next year’s World T20 in mind.

“I will find out from the selectors when I meet them on October 24. We will find out what the selectors are thinking and then I will put forth my opinion,” Ganguly had said earlier this month.

Ganguly also said that he would like to speak to Dhoni and know what he wants.

“We will have to see what Dhoni wants. I will also speak to him what he wants to do and what he does not want to do.”
