The family of Jaipur girl, Apurvi Chandela, is elated after she, alongwith Deepak Kumar, bagged Gold medal in the 10 metre air rifle mixed team event at the shooting World Cup on Monday.
India Today spoke with Apurvi’s father and sister in Jaipur.
“Family, alongwith the state and the nation are so happy that Indian shooters are doing so well and for us, its very big thing that Apurvi could win medal and especially on a range, where she could not perform that great during Olympics. So, it is very very satisfactory for her and she is working very hard towards it.”, Apurvi Chandela’s father, Kuldeep Singh Chandela, mentioned to India Today.
Apurvi and Deepak had outshone China’s Yang Qian and Yu Haonan in the final winning it 166. Apurvi’s sister, Tejaswini, hoped that she wins Olympic medal.
“Here’s hoping. I mean, that is the hope. Both Deepak and Apurvi performed really well. Its mixed event and has to be team effort and both of them played beautifully and here’s hoping that at the Olympics, they get a medal.
“Definitely, the only focus right now is Olympics. Thats the only goal. Because now, for us, I mean, and for her, its almost as if the countdown has begun and she has to now start prepping for it totally… she has to eat, sleep, breath Olympics now.”, Tejaswini, Apurvi’s sister, mentioned to India Today.
Apoorvi’s father also mentioned that her experience in the 2016 Olympics will help her.
“Immensely, yes. That will help her. She is quite confident now and for her, Olympic is another important match to play.”, Apoorvi’s father, Kuldeep Singh Chandela, mentioned.
