Pop Goes the Paisley

Italian brand Etro’s cult paisley print has returned to its historic roots and undergone an Indian makeover. Delhi-based contemporary artist duo Thukral Tagra have reimagined Etro’s signature imprint through a collection titled “Mirabilia”. Following in the wake of Paul Smith’s “The Ghoda Cycle Project” with graphic artist Sameer Kulavoor, the collaboration between Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra, and Etro, is another celebration of Indian talent and multiculturalism. The duo’s work is said to have caught the eye of Jacopo Etro, Creative Director – Accessories, Etro, at a gallery in Delhi. Comprising eight styles — four men’s and four women’s — the capsule collection features the duo’s eclectic illustrations on top of Etro’s easily recognisable paisley canvas. Bearing the inimitable Thukral Tagra stamp are totes, satchels, wallets, trolleys and tablet covers in jewel-toned green, blue and deep brown.
