Fashion tips! How to dress up like silver screen divas

Be it Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone or Vidya Balan, we all have one fashion favourite among the celebrities. Aishwarya Parameshwaran asks designers to help you dress like your silver screen divas

The most awaited festive season is around the corner. It’s that time of the year when we don’t really hesitate to do a little fashion show. Well actually that’s the best time to show off your new clothes and experiment with ethnic trends, since you’d be having guests and relatives visiting you. Our fashion designers guide you to dress just apt according to your persona during the festive season.

Bubbly girl
Alia Bhatt is an inspiration to all young teenagers and women in 20s. She is known to have her own style trends and never compromises with comfort. Fashion designer and founder of Pristine, Unnati Gandhi says, “She is bright like glitter and bubbly like champagne. It is rightly said for the girls who want to try something new and not typical. A peplum top with a dhoti or round cape (front short back long) with a crop top and skirt in bright festive colours like red, bottle green, golden to keep it look fresh and Indo-western. Polki jewellery and pearl embellishments as neck piece or long earrings and maang tikka will give very fashionable and royal look. You can have a messy bun or get tongs done. To go with footwear’s you can either choose kolhapuri wedges for girls who love to wear heels or heavy jhootis with diamond or ghungroo work goes perfect with the look.”

Don’t we all just love the way Deepika Padukone dresses? Her attire, make up and jewellery is just on point when she goes all ethnic. But the question is how to get that elegant and sophisticated look without splurging much on the designer outfits. “Try a Hepburn-esque column or an A-line Anarkali in champagne, red, emerald or navy to keep is sophisticated. Do either a chunky neck piece or dangler earrings but never both. But nothing too costumey! Rather do a classic pearl or diamond drop earrings to keep the look classic and minimal. You can add a gajara to a sleek low bun to complete your look. Or side swept waves to keep it simple. Golden wedges or beaded mojdi’s would work well with this look,” advises fashion designer, Sargam Shingadia.

It’s the simple classic artsy look an Indian woman wears gracefully. Be it a festive occasion or a wedding, this look is just perfect for any Indian woman. It’s a known fact that how you dress, defines your persona and if you’re willing to carry a matured, elegant yet classic look, then you must go for this style. Vidya Balan has made a mark in the fashion world. If you’re willing to pull of that artsy look, you can take some inspiration from gorgeous Vidya Balan. Dev Sood, Fashion stylist/ wardrobe consultant suggests, “A hand painted saree with monotone piping enhancing the whole ivory base draped firmly with poise! A string of pearls and a vintage watch is all to style it up. A smile with a composed language gives the whole look a very artsy day feel where she must have finished a brunch and about to head to a relative’s place for Diwali celebration.”

Simple and Sober
If your persona is simple and you don’t really like dressing off beat then you can get your fashion inspiration from Dia Mirza. She is known to carry herself with simplicity and grace. She usually opts for colours and patterns which aren’t too loud. With minimal make up and right accessories she manages to grab those eye balls very easily. If you’re trying to pull a matured yet graceful look, you should opt for this look.

“A simple and sober look according to me would be a pair of solitaire teamed with a loose tennis bracelet, which will definitely make you cocktail or fine dine ready. Additionally, for a simple and sober look for Diwali evening, one should go for a pair of chandbalis, along with a small mangtikka! Another option would be a single line exquisite looking necklace with small pair of earrings.” says jewellery designer, Riya Shah of Belleza Jewels.

Raw and Bold
For those women who just love fashion and can carry almost anything and everything with utmost confidence then this fashion trend is just for you. Raw and bold is what Sonam Kapoor’s style is! If you just adore her style then you can definitely try this look and here’s what Priya Negi, fashion stylist suggests, “Printed oversized ethnic (maybe embroidered) jackets teamed with high waisted self-coloured dhoti pants gives a very nostalgic 90s feel. Colours such as red and orange with a hint of brown or black give it that twisty raw feel.  Sparkly, sequence and bedazzled bralets or a cowell halter could complete the entire ensemble adding an early 2000 vibe to your attire giving major K3G Kareena Kapoor throwback. Team up with your mom’s georgette old school dupatta or stole for a timeless fashion edge. A pair of stilettos or even chunky pumps would scream perfection to this look. Dangler earrings without a neckpiece would add Indian flavour to your final ensemble.”
