A day after a collision between a state transport bus and truck killed 27 people and injured 10 in Malshej Ghat in Kalyan, the police have secured the custody of the truck driver for 14 days.
The bus plunged 250 ft into a valley off the road Thursday, after colliding with a truck loaded with firewood, police said. The driver of the truck, Sharbjit Yadav, 54, was arrested from the spot.
Police conducted a medical test on Yadav while the RTO inspected both vehicles.
“Prime facie, Yadav was not drunk but we have sent his blood sample to the Kalina Forensic Sciences Laboratory. Experts from the RTO also inspected the truck to establish if a technical glitch caused the accident. They will weigh the cargo of firewood and find if it had anything to do with the mishap,” said Babaji Bhor, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Murbad.
