A huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized and 26 persons were arrested by Hooghly district’s Chandannagar Police Commissionerate on Sunday.
Police Commissioner Humayun Kabir said that they seized 21 arms, including 9mm and 7mm pistols, besides carbines, and 108 rounds of bullets.
As per police, among those arrested were wanted criminals Prosenjit Das and Nepu Das, against whom several cases, including of murder and extortion were lodged.
In another incident on Sunday, an arms dealer was arrested from Joynagar in South 24 Parganas district by Baruipur police. Several arms were seized from Suprabhat Haldar (24), a resident of Shreekrishnanagar in Joynagar. He allegedly used to bring parts of arms from Munger in neighbouring Bihar and after assembling it locally, he used to supply them across Bengal.
