The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday visited the residence of a TMC leader said to be an aide of party MP Aparupa Poddar. Poddar was purportedly seen in the Narada News cash-for-favour “sting” operation accepting money.
Denying that it was a raid, CBI sources said their team visited Iilyas Chowdhury’s residence in Khanakul block under Hooghly district to seek some clarification in the Narada case. The team stayed there for two hours, sources said.
Poddar, according to sources, may have met Narada News CEO and Editor Mathew Samuel in 2014 at Chowdhury’s residence
On August 30, 2017, a CBI team had questioned Poddar at her house in Rishra, Hooghly district in connection with the Narada case. Poddar, a first time TMC MP, was the only one from the party who had moved the High Court seeking to quash the charges against her in the case on grounds that she wasn’t a public servant when the “sting” was done. However, as per CBI sources, she was the Rishra Minicipality vice-chairperson at the time.
