A 51-year-old man died after he was allegedly pushed by two persons following an altercation over donation for Kali Puja at Nishchinda in Howrah. Both the accused have been arrested. Sources in the police said the incident took place at around 10.30 am on Sunday when Subrata Dey and Krishna Dasgupta, members of West Santinagar Junior Boys Club, came to Dulal Kanti Sen’s house and allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 as Kali Puja donation.
“Sen’s son Ratan lodged a complaint today (Monday). The accused demanded Rs 1,000 as donation, but Sen agreed to give Rs 51. Following this, an altercation ensued during which the accused pushed Sen,” said a police officer. Sen fell on the ground and got injured. He was rushed to Belur SG Hospital and then shifted to a nursing home in Hooghly, where he died.
“The accused have been arrested under sections 447 (criminal trespass), 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC,” a police officer said.
