Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s brother Tongbram Lukhoi Singh was abducted with one of his associates on Friday from his residence in the New Town area in Kolkata. However, the police rescued both the victims within a few hours and arrested all the five accused.

According to police, the accused entered Singh’s house pretending to be a CBI officer.

“Tongbram Lukhoi Singh (43), his wife Ngangom Pushparani Devi, and his assistant Moirangthem Shanta Singh (42) were at their fourth-floor home in the township’s Action Area I when some people, introducing themselves as CBI officers, entered their house. Two of the accused belonged to Manipur, while one was from Punjab,” a senior police official of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate said.

“They took the mobile phones of all the three and abducted Singh and his associate along with them in two different cars. They were taken to the Mirza Ghalib Street, from where Singh was later rescued”, the official added.

Police recovered cash, the car, three fake arms and other articles from the possession of the accused.
