A 17-year-old gang rape victim committed suicide by jumping into a water tank. The incident took place in Chohtan police station area of the district on May 6, but family members of the victim lodged a case in the matter on Monday, police said.
Giving a reason behind delay in filing of the case, the family members told the police that they were initially unaware about the reason behind the suicide. It was only after the victim’s younger sister told them about the victim’s gang rape, the family decided to approach the police, they stated the complaints.
On May 4, the family members had gone out of their home leaving the minor behind when two men, identified as Jitendra Jat and Ramaram Jat, kidnapped her, took to an insolated place and gang-raped, stated the complainants.
The accused allegedly threatened the victim not to reveal the fact to anyone or else they would kill her. Unable to bear the trauma, the minor committed suicide by jumping into a water tank on May 6, they alleged.
The police have lodged a case under sections 363, 366, 376(D), 305 of the IPC and the POCSO Act and started investigations. No arrest was made in the case till the last report came in.
