BJP did injustice for 5 years, Congress will do NYAY, says Rahul Gandhi

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused the ruling party at the Centre of doing injustice to the people for the last five years and promised to alter that course if his party is voted to power in 2019.

Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised Rs 15 lakh in bank accounts of people, two crore jobs to the country’s youth, and right produce price to farmers but has not fulfilled any of them in the last five years.

“Since the last five years Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister and is running the government for 15 rich people of the country,” Rahul Gandhi alleged while addressing a public meeting in Baneshwar Dham in Rajasthan’s Banswara district.

“Modi lied to you about the Rs 15 lakh but we want to put money in every account of poor … We are doing this because Modi deposited crores in the account of an industrialist and now I will get it from there and deposit in your account,” he said.

Banswara will vote on April 29 along with 12 other parliamentary constituencies in the desert state in the fourth round of the seven-phased elections. Polling in the rest of the 12 seats in Rajasthan will be held on May 6. The votes will be counted on May 23.

Buoyed by the success in the state elections last year, the Congress party is looking to better its tally this year after failing to win even a single seat out of the 25 in Rajasthan in the last Lok Sabha election. The BJP recorded a massive victory by winning all the seats in the state.

“They weakened MNREGS and did injustice with the poor, weak, weak section and tribals for five years. Now, Congress wants to bring justice for the next five years,” Gandhi said as he continued to lash out at the BJP.

The Congress president said the government formed in 2019 will be a people’s government.

“You have seen much in the last five years during demonetisation and GST implementation. Modi talks of surgical strike, now Congress will be doing a surgical strike on poverty. We will eradicate poverty,” Gandhi said.

Modi, he said, did not keep his promise of providing two crore jobs and paying the Rs 15 lakh. The Congress president claimed there are 22 lakh jobs vacant in the government and his party will fill those vacancies in a year and 10 lakh youth will be employed at the panchayat level.

Gandhi said, “We are not here to lie but build and strengthen our relationship. Modi speaks whatever comes in his mind but I will speak the truth be it NYAY, jobs or farmers.”

Highlighting the party’s election manifesto, he said the youth of the country will not have to take any permission for three years for starting a business and that there will be a separate budget for farmers.

“Is it justice that farmers’ unable to pay bank loan are jailed and rich people defaulting loans do not face any action? We have decided to amend the law that no farmer will not go to jail for their inability in paying off loans,” he said.

He alleged that the Modi-led BJP government worked to snatch water, jungle and land of the tribals but his party will work to secure them all.

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot also hit out at Modi, saying the Prime Minister shies away from discussing the concerns of the people.

“Gandhi asks him to comment on issues and talk about what they plan and intend to do for youth, Dalits, farmers, weaker section. But he never replies,” Gehlot said.

“They talk of the cow, temple and nationalism. Aren’t we nationalists? The way he speaks, he will be the first PM to misguide the country and his name will be written in history. Politics should be issue-based,” the chief minister said.

Gehlot also said that this election is about protecting the Constitution and the country.

The president of Congress’ Rajasthan unit Sachin Pilot also said PM Modi has failed on all fronts and those who questioned him are labelled as anti-nationals.

Pilot said the Congress government has always supported the youth, Dalits and tribals of the country.

“Rahul Gandhi has challenged Modi and BJP to hold discussions on issues such as farmers, jobs, youth, NYAY, weaker section etc. Let’s see who has worked more,” he said.
