The Central Board of Secondary Education is mulling to conduct practical examinations at external centres like theory exams from the 2020 board exams.
Ranveer Singh, regional director of CBSE Dehradun zone, said the board was planning to bring in quite a few changes from the next academic session and conducting practical exams externally is likely to be one of them.
The board is likely to bring in a new marking scheme also for practical exams from the next academic, if they are conducted externally, he said.
The decision was taken during the examination committee meet conducted by the board last year, which was later approved by the governing body of CBSE.
However, the notification on the decisions was made public last week. The notification, signed by Sanyam Bhardwaj, controller of examinations, states, “CBSE may consider conducting practical examinations at the theory examination centre with effect from 2020 examination. Standard operating procedures and detailed marking scheme to be implemented for practical examination may also be developed.”
At present, the CBSE conducts practical exams for different subjects in both class 10 and class 12 at home schools itself, around 15 days before the main board exams start. This year, the practical exams for both the standards were conducted from January 16 to February 15.
Speaking about other changes, Singh said from the next academic session, project works given to students will be such that they would have to do them in school itself.
“Most of the times, students get their projects made by professionals and they do not learn as much as they should. From now students will have to complete their projects in school itself,” said Singh.
