A summer camp aiming to promote traditional values of arts and sports and adopt a positive lifestyle began here on Monday.
The camp, hosted at the Auditorium of School of Management, Pondicherry University by the Trust for Youth and Child Leadership (TYCL), is based on the theme, “Exploring 21st Century Creative Life Skills through Arts and Sports”. It will go on till May 11.
According to R. Suresh Krishna, TYCL, administrator, the inclusive camp will act as space for self learning and self-reflection, and help participants explore different values of arts and sports.
Approximately 110 children from various orphanages, gypsy community, villages and slums in and around Puducherry as well as children with physical and intellectual disabilities are taking part in the camp.
A team of 20 volunteers will facilitate and assist the children. All the sessions will be facilitated by child leaders and thematic experts. Resource persons have been arranged from relevant fields, faculties from the university, eminent organisations and institutions.
Collector T. Arun inaugurated the camp.
G. Anjaneyaswamy, Dean, School of Management, Pondicherry University, Francis Kulandai Raj of TYCL, and V. Sindhu, camp coordinator were among those who addressed the children.
