Stalin cannot deceive the people, says Deputy CM

“Stalin can drink tea at roadside shops only as part of his political gimmicks, but he can’t decieve the people or me. I ran a tea shop,” said Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, on Sunday.

He was campaigning at Kumananchavadi in Poonamallee for AIADMK candidate G. Vaithiyanathan for the by-poll in the Poonamallee Assembly constituency and P. Venugopal, the AIADMK candidate for the Tiruvallur Lok Sabha constituency.

Till his arrival, songs from MGR films blared from loud speakers. Unmindful of the scorching sun, hundreds of cadre waited till his arrival around 1 p.m.

In his speech, Mr. Panneerselvam said Stalin was trying to win over voters by wearing colourful shirts, walking through the farms and drinking tea. Over three crore people drink tea. “I ran a tea shop successfully,” he said to the delight of the crowd.

At this juncture, there was a little commotion, as a man, claiming to be from the Deputy Chief Minister’s hometown, said he had tasted tea from his shop.

Mr. Panneerselvam said the people were with the AIADMK, which was a cadre-based party.

Impossible to achieve

“Stalin wants to become Chief Minister. This is not possible. He claims that our party will be wiped out. His father could not do it and it will never be possible for him,” he noted.

Speaking about welfare schemes of the AIADMK government, the Deputy Chief Minister assured that once the elections were over, steps would be taken to vacate the stay and the special allowance of ₹2,000 for BPL families would be implemented.
