A skeleton, suspected to be of a 15-year-old girl who was reported missing since September last year, was found in a village near Tiruttani on Sunday evening.
Saritha was reported missing since September 7. Police said the skeleton, along with a school uniform, was found by labourers near a sugarcane field.
The bones have been sent to the Forensic Department for tests.
According to police, Saritha was the daughter of Subramani, a resident of Pudhuvenkatapuram village near Tiruttani.
On September 7, Saritha left for school but did not return. When her parents enquired, they found that she had not attended school that day.
The family lodged a police complaint and were searching for her.
On Sunday, a few labourers from Cuddalore working in a sugarcane field stumbled upon the bones near a pond close to the field.
The skeleton was half buried and it is suspected that dogs dragged it out.
“The uniform of the school where the girl was studying was also there. Hence, we suspect that it could be Saritha,” said a police officer.
The police have formed four special teams to probe the case.
