The Chennai division of the Railway Protection Force has been testing ways to control fire on trains with a water jet machine. A senior official of the RPF said that long-distance trains were normally equipped with water and power. The water jet machine, costing ₹45,000, could be used for providing a fire safety system on the trains.
Used with a telescope sprayer, the RPF found that fire could be brought under control. The tests were satisfactory, the official said.
