Royapettah flyover badly needs more illumination

Lack of illumination on the flyover at Royapettah High Road is landing motorists in trouble. At present, the flyover gets some illumination from the light emitted from multi-storey establishments around.

Vehicles proceeding towards Mylapore from Royapettah and vice-versa find it difficult to drive down the flyover.

The facility provides easy access to many motorists rather than negotiating through the service lane and intersection of Dr. Radha Krishnan Salai and Royapettah High Road to reach TTK Road, Gowdiya Mutt Road and Avvai Shanmugam Salai.

Many motorists turn on the high-beam lights, which makes driving difficult for those coming in the opposite direction.

“Accidents on the overpass can prove to be fatal as the thoroughfare is free after 10 p.m. Given the speed certain vehicles take, they won’t be able to ascertain the distance of their vehicle from other vehicles due to lack of illumination,” said S. Durga, a resident of Royapettah.

The facility comes under the maintenance of Zone 9 of Greater Chennai Corporation and the officials said they will take immediate steps.
