The world’s largest ocean cruise liner, MV Queen Mary 2, a Bermuda-flagged vessel, called on Chennai port on Sunday.
The ship, with a gross tonnage of 1,48,528 GT, is 345 m long and 48.7 m wide.
It arrived from Langkawi in Malaysia and was berthed at the refurbished Cruise Passenger Facilitation Centre, according to a press release.
Faster than any other ship
The Queen Mary 2 is much faster than any contemporary cruise ship, with a maximum speed of 30 knots (56 kmph) and a cruising speed of 26 knots (48 kmph).
This ship, which has 13 decks, houses 15 restaurants and bars, five swimming pools, a theatre and a planetarium. The ship is manned by 1,255 crew and had 2,528 passengers on board. Twenty-nine passengers embarked and 74 disembarked at Chennai port, the release said. The ship will dock at Kochi next.
