Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Chennai to participate in the convocation of IIT Madras on September 30.
On Saturday, State government officials confirmed the visit of the Prime Minister to IIT Madras.
“On Friday, we received information that the visit of the Prime Minister to IIT Madras was not likely to happen this month. However, the visit of the Prime Minister to IIT Madras was confirmed on Saturday,” an official said.
Police officials said the visit was “likely”.
Chennai Corporation officials and the police are likely to begin preparing for the visit of the Prime Minister to IIT campus.
IIT-M is celebrating its diamond jubilee year and had invited the Prime Minister for its 56th convocation for around 2,000 graduates.
Refurbishment to start
Chennai Corporation will start work on refurbishing roads and parks along the route of the Prime Minister.
The civic body will relay new roads and reconstruct damaged walls along the Prime Minister’s route, officials said.
The civic body has also planned to prevent any piling up of garbage in the Adyar zone, which reported problems in waste management in the last few days.
