Pedestrians irked by gaps in footpath

Pedestrians need to watch their steps while walking on the footpath of the bridge on Poonamalle High Road, Koyambedu. Otherwise, they may trip over and injure themselves. The footpath (especially towards Inner Ring Road at Thirumangalam in Anna Nagar) is uneven as slabs are broken and there are many gaps.

“Walkers have no other option but to walk on thecarriageway. All kinds of trash can be found in the gaps on the pavement. When it rains, waterstagnates in these gaps,” says M. Maheshwari, a resident of Anna Nagar.

Besides, vendors on the footpath are a hindrance to the movement of pedestrians. Another safety concern is that the bridge lacks stretch lamp posts.

“At night, as there is no adequate lighting and it is quite unsafe to walk on the road,” says M. Mani Maran, a resident of Vepery.
