Parents of a six-year-old boy on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Taramani police, alleging that their son was subjected to corporal punishment at school. They claimed that he was hit with a steel scale by the teacher.
On receipt of the complaint, the Taramani police booked a case against the teacher. The private matriculation school is functioning in Taramani.
Parents claimed that last Monday, the child was hit by his teacher using a scale. He was treated at a private hospital. The management did not inform them about the injury. On seeing the bandage on his head, he was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital.
When parents questioned the management, it volunteered to waive school fees for the current academic year to pacify them, and negotiated with the parents for a compromise settlement, by offering ₹5,000 for medical expenses.
The police said as per their initial investigation, the child was hurt accidentally, and that the teacher did not dole out corporal punishment. Further investigation is on.
