Over 7,700 students lock in their choice of engg. subject

As many as 7,705 engineering aspirants have locked in their choice of branch as on Thursday.

The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2019 committee released the tentative allotment information to candidates of the first round of online counselling.

Candidates can confirm and exit the counselling if satisfied or opt for an upgrade and move to the second round. The first round began on July 3 and candidates had to fill in their choices by 5 p.m. on July 10.

The candidates will be allotted a seat based on their choice and availability of seats on July 12, and the results will be declared on July 13. The details of the allotment are expected to be available to the public on

According to TNEA officials, till July 10, of the 9,872 candidates eligible to appear for online counselling, 7,734 candidates had paid the registration fee. Candidates who do not confirm their choices by 5 p.m. of Friday will forfeit the choices they made in the first round and will automatically be moved to the second round, officials said.

The Directorate of Technical Education is conducting the admission process this year. Candidates may call the DoTE helpline at 044-22351014/22351015, 044-22350523/22350527 and 044-22350529, according to a higher education department release.
