The local unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has urged the government to improve infrastructure and quality of teaching in government schools.
In a statement, nominated legislator and president of BJP V. Saminathan said the only way to stop exodus of students to private schools was to improve the infrastructure and academic environment in government schools.
The Education Department had failed to provide coaching for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test to students in government schools. The Tamil Nadu government was successful in providing training to students to write NEET, he said.
Mr. Saminathan said the government should consider giving Centac sponsorship for professional courses to students studying in government schools.
Currently, the financial assistance was given to Centac-sponsored students irrespective of the candidates’ economic and social background. The scheme should be streamlined so that government school students would benefit, he added.
