A case of hit-and-run turned out to be a murder with police arresting one of relatives to the deceased in Avadi.
Mubarak Ali, 38, a tailor, of Pudunagar in Avadi, was found lying grievously injured on the roadside in Kamaraj Nagar on October 11 last year. His moped was also badly damaged. Passersby alerted the police control room and traffic police personnel of the Poonamallee unit rushed him to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
Initially, the traffic investigation team treated it as a road accident case, but later veered to see it as a hit-and-run case, after his wife and brother raised suspicion. The case was forwarded to Avadi Law and Order Police for further investigation.
The Avadi police began investigation and unravelled the plot behind the murder. The inquiry with his wife Zafurunisha and his brother revealed that his brothers-in-law Sadakuthula and Abdul Rahman of Padi had helped Mubarak Ali get a visa for travelling to Quwait where he could work. Ali refused to go abroad and take up the job. So they were unhappy with him. Ali reportedly had a heated argument with the two on the day he died. That ended with Ali damaging the duo’s car and racing away on his moped.
In retaliation, the brothers chased him in their car. When Ali slowed his two-wheeler near a speed-breaker, the brothers rammed his vehicle, causing grievous injury to him.
After a long hunt, the Avadi police arrested Sadakuthula on Monday evening and launched a manhunt to nab his brother Abdul Rahman who is absconding.
