Gutkha seized, three arrested

The police have arrested three persons and seized close to 1,340 kilograms of the banned gutkha worth ₹20 lakh during a vehicle check conducted at Perungalathur on Tuesday night.

According to police, a special team was conducting vehicle checks in Perungalathur when they spotted two load vehicles heading their way. The personnel stopped the vehicle and during inspection found packets of gutkha.

The total worth of the seized contraband was estimated at ₹20 lakh. Pavan Kumar, Prakash and Noor Mohammed, who were in the vehicle were arrested. During interrogation they revealed that the consignment belonged to Munuswamy of Peerkankaranai.

He used to store the gutkha in his godown and supply it to shops across the city. A search is on to nab him.
