Fresh case booked against Nanjil Sampath

Nanjil Sampath, propaganda secretary of AIAMDK (Amma), found himself in the middle of high drama on Monday as his residence in Pattinampakkam came under attack by BJP cadre, who also gheraoed him later at a hotel. Trouble has been brewing for some time with BJP workers taking offence to some of the comments made by Mr. Sampath, who has been highly critical of both BJP leaders and factions within AIADMK opposed to T.T.V. Dhinakaran.

On Monday evening, BJP Tiruvallur district leader Loganathan laid a seige to the residence of Mr. Sampath and indulged in sloganeering against him. Mr. Sampath was not at his residence at that time. Police personnel who rushed to the spot tried to pacify the cadre.

However, they insisted on the registration of a complaint. Following this, the Pattinapakkam police registered a case against Mr. Sampath under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 499 (Defamation) and 500 (Punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1998, for his derogatory remarks.

Later, when the BJP cadre spotted Mr. Sampath at a hotel, they gheraoed him. Mr. Sampath could not leave the place immediately as the cadre punctured the tyres of his car. Police had to intervene.

Meanwhile, on behalf of Mr. Sampath, a complaint has been lodged with the office of City Police Commissioner seeking initiation of criminal action against those attacked his house with an intention to kill him. He also sought protection to his life and property.
