Forum requests GCC to modify SWD design

Spark, a civic forum based in Besant Nagar, has made a representation to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to modify the design of stormwater drain network that is being constructed near the intersection of Lattice Bridge Road and Mahatma Gandhi Road (near Metrpolitan Transport Corporation depot at Adyar).

“Here, debris and garbage are being dumped on the footpath and the Corporation is constructing a stormwater drain in such a manner that it passes through the premises of a commercial establishment. This will block free flow of rainwater. Therefore, its design needs to be altered,” says T. D. Babu, founder, Spark.

The members of the forum have pointed out that the drains lack a gradient.
