Chennai Rifle Club gets new shooting facility

City police commissioner A.K.Viswanathan, who is also president of Chennai Rifle Club, on Saturday inaugurated a new 10-metre shooting facility consisting of 18 shooting lanes on the second floor of Chennai Rifle Club-Dr.Sivanthi Adityan Rifle and Pistol Shooting Range in Egmore.

Mr. Viswanathan said the shooting range in Egmore now has 34 lanes with the addition of 18 at cost of ₹ 44 lakh. He said more than 140 students in the age group of 10-17 years from various schools enrolled in the student membership programme and underwent training. Shooters groomed here participated in the recently concluded State Shooting Championship Competition in Madurai, he said. They also won at competitions held in Veerapuram Shooting Range, Tiruvanthapuram and Ahmedabad, he added.

Special scholarship

“The potential talents from government schools should be inducted into the programme. The club has a special scholarship scheme for such students. Shooters from Chennai Rifle Club should be groomed to win championships in international events”, he said.
