Annual fine arts festival to showcase talent in music, dance

The 16th annual fine arts festival of the Meenakshi Sundararajan Fine Arts Academy was inaugurated at the Meenakshi College for Women on Tuesday evening.

Inaugurating the festival, Andal Priyadharshini, head of programmes, Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai, lauded the fine arts academy for recognising talent and giving people a chance to enjoy music.

“Nothing but music has the ability to transport us to another world and touch our soul. I am glad we will get to hear many more concerts as part of the festival,” she said.

The inaugural concert of the festival had vocalist Nisha Rajagopalan performing. Concerts and dance performances will be held till December 23.

Performances have been scheduled at 11.30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Industrialist Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti said the festival, which will be held on the college premises, will help inspire and motivate students to take up the performing arts.

Vibrant city

Meena Muthiah, guest of honour at the inaugural, described how much more vibrant the city becomes in December, and said the season attracted music lovers from across the world.

“Music has the power to heal and comfort, and it is fortunate to be part of a culture that helps one appreciate music,” Ms. Muthiah said.
