A total of six important roads in North Chennai have come under 100% Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance after 668 cameras were inaugurated by the city police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan, on Thursday.
The cameras have been installed in NSC Bose Road, Rajaji Salai, Ibrahim Salai, Esplanade Road, Wall Tax Road and Mint Street.
The cameras will be monitored through the control rooms set up in North Beach traffic police station and near Stanley Hospital roundabout.
The Commissioner distributed helmets and raincoats to policemen on the occasion.
“All are high-end cameras. Some of them will soon be enabled with number plate detection facility,” said an officer.
